Table Talk Interview
Vol 1: Grace Whitman
Welcome to Table Talk, a blog series where I sit down with creatives to uncover their personal design strategies, rituals, and inspirations. For the very first installment, I figured: Who better to interview than myself? So, I answered a handful of the same set of questions I’ll be asking future creatives
What’s your current signature candle scent you can’t stop burning?
"Right now, I’m obsessed with Cannabis by Malin+Goetz. It’s warm, earthy, and masculine." (shop here)
What’s your go-to styling trick when something feels “off”?
"When I’m unsure about the balance of a tablescape or feel like something’s off, I use my iPhone camera. Snapping a quick photo helps me see the space from a fresh perspective and pinpoint what needs to be moved, added, or taken away. After staring at the same spot for too long, it’s easy to lose clarity. My photos help bring it back."
Favorite under-$50 find that made a big impact in your space?
"My little pear pillow from the John Derian x Target collab last fall. It's adorable, quirky, and adds the perfect pop of green to my all-white bedding." (image below)
What item in your home gets the most compliments?
"Probably my vertical gallery wall between the bedroom windows. The colors and images complement each other, and the vertical layout draws the eye upward, emphasizing the height of the room."
What rituals or objects help anchor your day?
"Coffee in the morning on the couch with Ryan - he does the making, I do the drinking."
Favorite Online Home Tour?
The List Continues…
♠ NYC Apartment With Patrick Janelle
♠ Emma Chamberlain's Radiant New Home
What’s the last thing you bought—home-related or not—that made you smile?
"A silver tray from Housing Works near me on the UWS. It was completely tarnished, but I knew with a little elbow grease, it would shine like new."
Favorite coffee table book or magazine you always keep out?
"The John Derian Picture Book. Every print is stunning, and I love how simply opening to a new page can completely transform the feel of my coffee table setup." (shop here)
What’s always on your bedside table?
"A full glass of water and my kindle (pls send any good book recs my way!)"
Do you collect anything—intentionally or unintentionally?
”Antique clip-on earrings! I don’t have my ears pierced, so I love hunting for vintage styles at thrift stores and flea markets. Clip-ons were especially popular before pierced ears became the norm, so there are some truly amazing, unique designs out there. It’s always a fun treasure hunt!”
What song or album do you play to get the creative juices flowing?
"Kacey Musgraves - Slow Burn Album."
Thanks for pulling up a seat for this first edition of Table Talk. I can’t wait to share more conversations with the creatives I admire most. See you at the table next time!
